NEXUS: Green Resource Center Minimize

Brooklyn Ecopolis is very pleased to have a formal relationship with NEXUS: Green Resource Center, a non-profit green resource project center, sponsored by the Green Roundtable (GRT) providing free resources, events and a wealth of information on green building and sustainable design to the general public and building industry in New England. As an affiliate of Nexus, Brooklyn Ecopolis has the opportunity to adapt a wealth of expertise and an extensive sustainable library, programs and resources to our local community.  In addition, this affiliation links Brooklyn Ecopolis and our local community to a national network of sustainable practices, partners and resources.

Brooklyn Ecopolis adheres to GRT's philosophy, which is aligned with the Brundtland Commission's definition of sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability or future generations to meet their own needs."

NEXUS' definition of green building: Green building is a tool to maximize human and environmental health and synergize natural and man-made environments with the intent of achieving sustainability for future generations. It applies to the whole of the built environment, including buildings, communities and infrastructure.  Green building changes the paradigm and practice of the building industry to ensure collaboration, clarity and accountability.  It is aesthetically-pleasing, high-performance, economically-viable, energy and resource-efficient and begins with an integrated design process.  A more accurate term to describe green building is “ideal building.”

NEXUS, along with Brooklyn Ecopolis, are committed to moving towards regenerative communities or triple bottom line, making our communities socially resilient, economically healthy and naturally resourceful.

NEXUS' successful educational framework is based on the Greenshift Framework™, a paradigm developed by GRT founder and visionary Barbra Batshalom. GRT's Greenshift Framework™ approach to education is based on 1) instilling a green mindset; 2) teaching green processes; 3) providing tools to implement sustainability; and 4) measuring the impact of building, individuals and groups as a result of sustainable implementation.
